Oracle's Protected Enterprise-Initiave is focused on all 3 key areas where Oracle is doing business in a market leading position: Fusion Applications, Fusion Middleware and Databases. One of the major business drivers supporting this initiative is the focus area Regulatory Compliance, becoming more important in different industries such as Financial Services, Telecommunications and Public Government. In the meantime the Compliance definition was extended to Risk Management and IT Governance by stake holders and audit firms in order to cover all aspects of Security relevant for the audit aspect of segregation-of duties. Compliance addresses first of all legal directives such as Sarbanes Oxley relevant for companies listed on a US stock market. EU Data Privacy Directives according to ISO standard 27701 are relevant for companies doing business in the European Union. The PCI payment card industry directives such as ISO standard 17799 as an example for industry specific standards are influencing significantly the Financial Services industry. Risk Management covers the identification and management of operational daily risks within an enterprise such as mission critical internal capital like construction plans or internal information such as salary data or customer data such as the confidentiality principle in the telecommunications industry. IT Governance is focused on measurements and transparency of enterprises according to audit directives based on internal standards defined by Controlling or external standards defined by audit firms such as Deloitte. Since joining Oracle in 2005 via the acquisition of Oblix, an American technology leader in Identity and Access Management, Michael Buerger has focused on the development of business concepts using innovative technologies, in particular Identity Management to solve the challenge of IT Governance, Risk Management and Compliance and other business drivers relevant for Security initiatives today.
