Database Consolidation Best Practices

In every data center, one of the major problems is the number of servers in the data center. In early days of companies, mainly one database per application approach has been taken which in return cause database server exploit. Last year Turkcell has consolidated its 18 different database servers on a 5 node-RAC-cluster running 11g Release 1 on Red Hat Linux 5.2. In this presentation you will find the best practices of a large scale consolidation from bottom to top. Hardware configuration (storage, Infiniband interconnect, etc), software configuration (Linux, Oracle Clusterware, ASM, RDBMS, etc), migration and problem diagnostic and solution best practices will be covered throughout the session.

Hüsnü Şensoy

Oracle ACE Director

Hüsnü Şensoy is a computer addict starting from his teenage. He has graduated from Bogazici University Department of Computer Engineering in 2007. He held various positions in different companies as a PL/SQL SQL developer, database development team manager, and VLDB expert in Turkey's largest BI environment with over 200 TB active data. He has recently quit Turkcell and formed up his own consultancy company Global Maksimum Data & Information Technologies. He is an Oracle ACED in BI field and recently awarded as "DBA of the Year" in 2009 by Oracle Magazine. He is the youngest member of the community taking those nominations at the age of 26. He is a presenter in global Oracle events like OOP and UKOUG. He is also a formal member of Oracle DWH Customer Advisory Board and a blogger in http://husnusensoy.wordpress.com.
