10 puta brže od NASA-e: obrada satelitskih podataka u Javi

Europska svemirska agencija sprema se lansirati 4 satelita za snimanje površine Zemlje. Protekle 3 godine Amphinicy razvija softver za zaprimanje i obradu podataka s tih satelita. Na osnovu stečenog iskustva izradili smo prototip sustava za obradu satelitskih podataka u stvarnom vremenu - oko 700Mb/s. Koristimo priliku da razbijemo desetljetni mit o “sporoj Javi” predstavljanjem glavnih obrisa arhitekture sustava za brzu obradu podataka, kao i nekoliko očitanja s naše štoperice koja je pokazala da radimo 10 puta brže od referentnog softvera iz NASA-e!

10 times faster than NASA: binary data stream processing in Java
Abstract:
The European Space Agency (ESA) is in making final arrangements prior to the launch of 4 new Earth observation satellites. Over the last 3 years, Amphinicy has been continuously working software to receive and process the data they send. Building on top of gained experience, we have designed and built a prototype system to process satellite data in real time - roughly 700 Mb/s. We would like to take this opportunity to dispel the decade old myth of “slow Java” by presenting key architecture elements of the data processing system, as well as present a few numbers recorded on our stop-watch which shows the system exceeding 10 times the speed of NASA's software library!

Tomislav Nakić-Alfirević 2003. je diplomirao, a 2011. magistrirao u području primjenjenog računarstva na FER-u u Zagrebu. Od 2003. radi na razvoju informacijskih sustava po narudžbi i sustavnom podizanju kvalitete procesa proizvodnje softvera, prvo u tvrtki Netgen d.o.o., a protekle 5 godine u tvrtki Amphinicy d.o.o.
Bio:
Tomislav Nakić-Alfirević received his BSc degree in 2003 and his MSc degree in 2011 in applied computer science at FER, University of Zagreb. He has been developing custom information systems and systematically improving the software production process since 2003, first in Netgen d.o.o. and the last 5 years in Amphinicy d.o.o.
